Yule

During this Winter Solstice time, the Sun halts its southward movement in the area of

the Crux constellation, where it appears to hold still for 3 days, then begin its ascent

northward again.

The Event: The Winter Solstice is when the Earth's axis is tilted furthest from the Sun in

the Northern Hemisphere, causing the Sun to appear to "stand still" before reversing its

seasonal path.

For the day, exactly three days (three 24 hour periods) after the solstice, but it's often

associated with the symbolic "rebirth" or "return" of the Sun, marking the end of the

Sun's apparent standstill ("dies on the Crux (aka “cross") for three days in ancient

Nordic/Occidental/European lore)...

…symbolizing rebirth and increased light, and older English terms for it include

"sunstead" or "sunstay"…

Happy Yuletide!!
